Raul Di Blasio… was sooo romantic yesterday!

Raul Di Blasio is helding three concerts at Music Hall- Beirut!
Jamil was thrilled when he heard about it last week,
And he kept talking about the concert he attended 10 years ago when this latin-jazz & easy listening argentine pianist first came to Lebanon, and how amazing it was…
The 3 concerts were over and we didn’t have even time to think about attending it, the past week was exhausting and frustrating!
Then we heard the news: an extra concert will be held on Sunday night
Saturday after work I headed to the ticketing box office
It was lunch break
I knew time was ticking and 30 minutes may diminish my chances of getting those tickets in appropriate spot.
And after a short debate with the supervisor (in fact it was a bit more than a debate), I managed to buy two tickets (there were just few remaining free seats!)
Jamil was really surprised when he saw them in the evening!

I, personally, have never heard Di Blasio’ music before
& I didn’t know what to expect from this big Latino guy with a huge moustache!

It was AWESOME!
He started the evening by stating that he is not in the mood of playing his classics, or the traditional way
He fell in love with Beirut
he was leaving just the next morning
so he was feeling romantic and sensitive and nostalgic
and all this together made him play famous classic  romantic pieces from all over the world, ignoring the audience requests for “Di Blasio Music”
he played the Tango
Charles Aznavour’s La Bohème
And he played famous pieces from Mexico, Brazil, and Peru…
which made my heart fall cuz it brought to me my amazing Latin-American friends I met in Germany 9 years ago
I used to hear their music and I loved it and it was such a joy to hear those world known pieces by such a talented composer again!
He played 3 of my favorites latino songs:
Por una Cabeza (for a lady): a Tango song from Argentine describing the mad things one may do to win the heart of a lady
« Por una cabeza
Todas las locuras,
Su boca que besa
Borra la tristeza,
Calma la amargura ».

Gracias a la Vida  (thanks to life) composed by the  Chilean Diva Violeta Parra (who is similar to Fairuz in Lebanon)
This song is a tribute to life, to the graces granted to us by God, starting by the starts ending by all the people we love!

"Gracias a la vida, que me ha dado tanto.
me dio dos luceros, y cuando los abro,
perfecto distingo lo negro del blanco,
y en el alto cielo su fondo estrellado,
y en las multitudes al hombre que yo amo"

He continued playing his favorite pieces reflecting the blues and the romantic mood
And suddenly he was playing my FAVORITE song EVER:
Manhã de Carnaval (Morning of Carnival), a gorgeous song, which melody is probably familiar to everybody
the original words are in Brazilian Portuguese & the music is originally composed by Luiz Bonfá (1922-2001)
the song has been performed by: Julio Iglesias, Luis Miguel, Placido Domingo& Luciano Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra, among others
and at last it was used in an Arabic version called "Shou Bkhaf" (How I fear) with lyrics written by Ziad Rahbani, performed by his mother our diva singer Fairuz, & released in her album: Wala Kif

I can hear this song tens and tens of times and never get enough of this amazing music/feelings
So, back to top: it was a great evening and I’m glad we got the chance to experience this outstanding event!
